How to Create Questions for Assessments
This article will look at the basics of creating questions for assessments inside of CourseKey. There are nine types of questions that can be authored and each question type will have its own unique variables which are covered in separate articles. Here we will cover the elements that you'll come across with all question types, using a multiple choice question as an example.
Create a Question
1. From the home screen, select the Course you are working with.
2. Select Create Assessment from the top navigation.
3. Select a Folder to store your questions.
a. The first time you log in you will see First Folder in your list. You can use this folder or create a new one.
4. Click on the Create button in the top left corner to show the drop down menu.
5. Select Question to show all question types.
6. Choose the Question Type you want to create.
Compose Question
After choosing your question type, the question creation pop-up will appear. The first section is where you will compose your question. This is what will be visible to the student when you create an assessment. For some question types there will may also be additional options such as creating the multiple choice options for students to choose from.
Set Correct Answer
For question types that can be auto-graded you will need to specify the correct answer to the question. Additionally you will need to assign how many points are awarded for the correct answer. If you would like you can also select an alternate correct answer and designate the point value for that answer as well.
More Options
More options are available in this section depending on the question type. One common option is to assign participation points that a student will receive even if they answer the question incorrectly.
Help
If you have questions while authoring a question you can click on the Help button at the top of the question creation pop-up. This can provide more information on available options.
Preview
At the top of the question creation pop-up you can toggle between Preview and Edit to view how your question will appear in an assessment.
Saving Your Question
When you're finished creating your question you'll have the option to confirm which folder you would want to store your question in. If you have no more questions to create click Save Question.
Note:
If you have another question to create of the same question type click Save and Create New to immediately begin creating your next question.
Editing a Question
Saved questions can be duplicated, edited, or deleted from within the question folders. Hovering over each question will present three icons.
Note:
When you edit a question in a folder in the Create Assessment page, the changes will not reflect in any questions already grouped into an assessment.
