QR-Code Attendance on the CourseKey Student App
Tired of hearing your instructor butcher last names? CourseKey's QR-Code Attendance technology allows you to scan-in to class and get credit for attendance quickly!
Here are a few tips on how to get the most our your CourseKey Student application and solve some of the most common issues.
How Do I Scan in for Attendance?
STEP 1: Login to your CourseKey application on your device.
STEP 2: Select your current class and when the attendance session is active click the Attendance icon.
STEP 3: Scan the QR-Code provided by the instructor by pointing your device's camera at the code until the scan is successful.
My Camera Does Not Seem To Be Scanning...
There are a few potential causes of a camera not being able to scan the QR-Code:
Allowing Camera Access - when you first attempt to access the QR-Scanner the CourseKey application will ask for permission to use the device's camera. Be sure to "allow" this or you will have to go back into your device settings to adjust this.
Lighting - too much or too little light when displaying a QR-Code on a projector or LCD display can cause issues. If this happens try to move to a better spot or adjust the lighting over the display area.
Obscured Camera - always check to be sure your device camera is clear from any debris or smudges as this can prevent the QR scanner from getting a clear reading. Standing too far way or at too great an angle may also create issues.
Pixelation - image distortion or pixelation can prevent a successful check-in depending on the quality of the hardware used to connect to a projector or LCD display. Ask the instructor to decrease the display size or use an alternative method to display the QR-Code.
What if I get an error that says "Code Mismatch"?
This error is shown whenever the system does not recognize the code scan to match the active session id. This can happen if the instructor is in the wrong class on CourseKey or is using an older printout from a previous attendance session. Let your instructor know if you are seeing this error.
What if I get an error that says "No Active Attendance"?
This error is shown whenever an attempt to check-in is made outside of the attendance session active time period. This message is letting you know that the attendance session has either not yet started or has already been completed. You will also see the details of the last session.
Can I Check in Using My Laptop?
Yes, but not with the mobile application. Currently we do not support laptops for QR-Code attendance because most do not have the adequate hardware. Some classes may use a alternate check-in option by providing a Alphanumeric Code tied to the unique attendance record that can be entered to check-in. Ask your instructor if you are not sure whether or not the alternative option is available.
Examples of Alphanumeric Code
Below is an example of checking in with the Alphanumeric Code. This requires your account settings to be configured for alternative check-in by the instructor.
